    Your role in the team

    Data, Discovery, and Decision Science (D3) is the research and analytics organization at Allstate.     This role is responsible for the use and development of data infrastructure projects & proof of concept business solutions for users in analytics and Data Science. This person works directly with data scientists and analytic engineers on needs and tactical solutions. This role will execute new data engineering work tracks for Data Science and analytics from inception and prototyping to fully developed solutions.

    Responsibilities include:

    Data analytic engineers are responsible for:

    • Writing code that meets requirements with due consideration to efficiency, scalability and stability.
    • Developing solutions to complex data problems.
    • Extracting, transforming and loading large amounts of data.

    Successful candidates will gain hands-on exposure to a variety of technologies, work on real data problems related to data science and become a key part of a growing group dedicated to research, development, and knowledge sharing.

    So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

    • All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
    • Enrolled in university studying computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related, highly quantitative field which requires a 3rd or 4th year placement as part of your degree, in which you are expected to attain a first-class degree.

    We also have some desirable criteria

    • Distributed computing or big data frameworks such as Spark, Mesos, Hadoop, AWS, Scality, Azure, etc.
    • Programming in Python, R, SQL, Scala, Java, C/C++, etc.
    • Proven ability to learn new technical skills and methods quickly
    • Working with structured relational databases, nested data structures, stream processed data, data from APIs, or unstructured data in various formats
    • Machine learning and using statistics to conduct data analytics
