Within the UK & Ireland we are the leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet; as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground and Dublin Luas.
Employing 6000 people, we design and build trains at Derby, the UK’s largest train factory; and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, and 30 train services depots across the UK and Ireland.
Now we are also part of a joint venture to design, build, and maintain the next generation of very high speed trains for HS2, delivering Europe’s fastest operational train, capable of operating at maximum speeds of 225mph (360 km/h). The fleet will be 100% electric and be one of the world’s most energy efficient very high speed trains with aerodynamic design, regenerative power and the latest energy efficient traction technology.
The Opportunity
We have 3 opportunites for this role, that will work within our Services business Engineering Team. They can be based at any of - Oxley (Wolverhampton) Traincare Centre; or our Derby, Litchurch Lane production facility; or our Widnes Technology Centre.

Your Tasks
Maintenance is vital to the smooth running of the UK’s rail operations. Working alongside our customers, Alstom’s Services Execution teams have forged a market-leading position in the important area of train life-care and support.
Working in Services Execution, you will make the most intelligent use of energy and materials, while partnering with our suppliers and meeting our customers’ demands for optimal safety, reliability, passenger comfort as well as cost efficiency. Performance is key and we aim to reduce cost, energy consumption and the environmental footprint.
Our work enables thousands of passengers to safely arrive to their destination every day, all over the UK.
We are looking for individuals to join our Operations Management and Engineering teams in London, Brighton, Reading, Derby, Widnes and Oxley. You will complete a two-year accredited development programme whilst providing a tangible contribution to the success of the team. You will undertake a series of rotations around the company gaining an understanding of the business and the service operation lifecycle. You will develop your knowledge, skills, experience and leadership mindset. Within a climate of innovation, you will also support solutions to meet the customer requirements as part of the safety case and train presentation, support the identification and delivery of continuous improvement.
On the job learning is complemented by a modular personal development programme in your given career route. Supported by a mentor you will work towards gaining a relevant professional qualification.
Your Qualifications
You will need a minimum 2:1 BEng or MEng in Engineering preferably Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, Maths, Science or a manufacturing discipline, GCSEs at grade 5-9 (A*-C), including Maths, English and Science, and have a desire to work in an operations management or engineering role. Candidates must have excellent problem-solving skills, a can do attitude and a passion for making things happen.
