The Team
The AMD SerDes team in Ireland are hiring for a graduate level silicon design engineer to work on SerDes products up to 200+Gbps on the latest CMOS FinFET nodes. The AMD team have extensive experience in the design of circuits for the high speed transmission and recovery of data over wired links. The successful candidate will work with a world class team in the development of SerDes solutions to facilitate the future connectivity of AMD CPU , GPU and FPGA products.

Day-to-day responsibilities
For those interested in learning Analog Design, the successful candidate with work with senior designers to
- Learn about spec development and design partitioning.
- Design and verify analog circuits related to SerDes phy development to meet block level design specifications
- Learn about custom layout of analog circuits and the impact of layout dependent effects on circuit performance.
- Verify circuit designs to ensure that functional, performance and reliability targets are achieved using industry standard tools and methodologies.
- Regularly present and share design progress to peers and senior engineers
- Participate in design reviews of other circuits to maximise exposure to different circuit architectures.
- Communicate with SerDes circuit team members at other sites for the purposes of sharing information.
- Feedback circuit performance information to the architecture team for the purposes of system modelling.
- Support of the system level verification team in the modelling of analog circuits in Verilog and in the debug of identified issues
- Learn about silicon bring up and debug.
For those interested in learning Digital Design, the successful candidate with work with senior designers to:
- Learn about spec development and design partitioning.
- Implement algorithms for clock and data recovery, adaptive digital control and DSP in RTL
- Communicate with the architecture team to understand proposed algorithms and provide feedback regarding design implementation.
- Ensure design functionality prior to hand-off of the design to verification team
- Verify RTL designs using standard industry tools for HDL checking e.g. CDC, RDC, Lint
- Learn about backend flows for digital designs – synthesis and Place & Route.
- Support the verification team in the debug of identified issues during system level verification
- Communicate with SerDes digital team members at other sites for the purposes of collaboration.
- Learn about silicon bring up and debug.
Preferred experience
- Good analog or digital circuit design fundamentals
- Experience with industry standard schematic entry and circuit simulation tools and methodologies
- Good programming / scripting skills
- Good interpersonal/teamwork skills
Academic credentials
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
