    We have an opportunity for an Assistant Management Accountant, who will support our project team working with our MOJ contract. Here, we manage maintenance projects within prisons which could take between 1 month and a year and could be up to multi-million in value. Our project Finance team manage the delegated funds and ensure all costs are recovered.

    As our Assistant Management Accountant you will create reports, allocate costs on plan and support the Management Accountant with job reviews. This is a development role which would suit either a Finance Assistant or a recent finance graduate, with advanced MS Excel skills. We will offer study support towards ACCA.

    This is a hybrid working role (3-4 days in office), which could be based from either Chorley or Motherwell.

    What will this role involve

    • Communicating with contract-based staff to resolve queries as they arise.
    • Producing and developing management reporting, understanding trends and providing meaningful information to enable management action to be taken to address areas requiring improvement.
    • Understanding the dynamic of client-based systems, linkages to contract systems and develop ways to utilise client held data to provide further integrity and reconciliation to data held at contract level.
    • Providing assistance and support to commercial management through expert data organisation skills utilising pivot tables, lookup formulas, sumifs formulas, data sort and file links.
    • Building effective relationships with functional areas and site-based teams to provide a reliable point of contact for all aspects of data integrity and financial reporting.
    • Ensuring the integrity of financial transaction information held within SAP.
    • Utilising SAP transaction detail and data manipulation skills to produce quality information to non-financial operational management.
    • Utilising data manipulation and excel skills to assist in the preparation of month end management accounts under the supervision of the contract finance manager, business support manager and senior financial analysts.
    • Assisting with the production of the monthly management accounts.
    • Assisting with the production of the monthly site profit and loss accounts by ensuring the robustness of cost allocations.
    • Preparing and posting month end journals including WIP, Revenue, provisions, accruals and prepayments.
    • Ensuring contract cost are controlled with robust procedures in place.
    • Constantly challenging existing processes and methodologies to drive improvements and more effective ways of working.
    • Pro-actively addressing issues and anomalies with finance, commercial and operations colleagues, explaining financial terminology to those with non-finance backgrounds.
    • Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are completed and key variances are understood and resolved, including appropriate audit trail and support
    • Raising and issuing client invoices, utilising the client AFP data. Including chasing of cash receipts and provide updates to the senior management and treasury teams.
    • Other transactional support activity as required.

    What are we looking for

    • Experience in a Finance Assistant role (or similar) or a recent Finance graduate
    • A desire to pursuing a career in Finance
    • Degree in a Numerical subject, or equivalent job-based experience
    • Excellent IT Skills including knowledge of Excel and SAP
    • Ability to achieve tight deadlines with a good level quality and understanding.
    • Ability to work with numbers comfortably and be numerate.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as the role involves interacting with internal and external clients
    • Good organisation skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload
    • High level of attention to detail
    • Commercial awareness
