    The opportunity

    Amey are now in control of the Northeast Trunk Road Network Management Contract. This 8-year contract (extendable to 12 years) builds upon our success in winning the Southwest Trunk Road Network Management Contract in 2020. Designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects in Scotland with cumulative values in-excess of £1bn these long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages in their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.

    In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established Contractors across the county.     The role

    Due to increased workload we are now looking for Bridge Inspectors to join our team

    As the Bridge Inspector you will undertake the examination of structures and properties as required by the contract specification and relevant industry standards as well as associated duties.

    In a typical week you will

    • Carry out a variety of different bridge inspections on the NMC SW Trunk Road Contract (South West Scotland) and other contracts such as Autolink M74 in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
    • Recording and reporting on all inspections including the use of Transport Scotland’s Structures Management System.
    • Arrange and carry out special inspections and detailed investigations of defects.
    • Interpretation of bridge structure defects in construction materials such as steel and concrete.
    • Understanding the importance of efficient reporting of urgent and severe defects that have the potential to reduce capacity and performance.
    • Recording defects on site and reporting via word processing apps and online structural management systems.
    • Assisting other offices with inspections and supervision of works as required.
    • Liaison between departments, arrange traffic management, access equipment and compile task briefing sheets.
    • Assist in ensuring the delivery of inspection programmes.
    • Assist in optimising output of the inspection process and ensuring that inspections and reports are completed and submitted in accordance with the contract.
    • Assist in the monitoring and reporting on inspection programme progress.
    • Assist in ensuring that the works within the area of operations are completed safely (in accordance with the plan and method statements), and to the correct quality (in accordance with the contract, plan and company procedures and instructions).
    • Cooperate with the project team in order to undertake HSEA checks and audits as agreed.
    • Assist, guide and develop others working towards a LANTRA BICS qualification.
    • Undertake site-based activities in accordance with the project requirements.

    We want to hear from you if you have

    • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering minimum requirement or in a similar relevant discipline, civil engineering, construction management.
    • Member of professional body desirable, example; EngTech, CSWIP, BICS Lantra.
    • Good knowledge of and progress towards a LANTRA BICS Bridge Inspector Certification.
    • Good IT skills, including Microsoft office.
    • Technical knowledge of bridge structures.
    • Knowledge of maintenance works.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and CDM 2015.
    • Experienced in the management and maintenance of trunk or local road network.
    • Demonstrable experience in a relevant discipline preferably involving work of a structural or building nature is desirable.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Client focussed approach.
    • IOSH working safely or equivalent (SMSTS).
    • Environmental awareness.
    • Personal Highways Safety.
    • The successful candidate should either already possess or will be expected to work towards attaining LANTRA BICS. Bridge Inspection qualification as required by Transport Scotland.
