    Position summary

    The Patient & Professional Advocacy (P&PA) team works as the company’s conduit to the rare disease community. We work in collaboration with patient organisation leaders, patients, and other stakeholders to understand the needs of the rare disease community and to improve the lives of those impacted by rare disease worldwide. We aim to be pioneers and the leading example of best practice in patient engagement across our sector. We conduct advisory boards, hold roundtables, organise lunch and learns, create patient videos and much more all to raise awareness of the needs of the people that we ultimately look to support, the people living with rare disease.

    The Intern is a new fixed term position within the International P&PA team. We are looking for a candidate that is looking to learn and build on their passion for supporting people living with rare diseases, someone willing to turn their hand to a variety of different tasks and assist the wider team. The ideal candidate will have an interest in working in the pharmaceutical industry or in a similar industry involving community engagement.

    The role is an exciting opportunity to get experience of working in a biotechnology company, with opportunities to learn about the administrative functionality of the organisation, the compliance landscape of the industry and to get hands on experience on a variety of exciting projects.

    Roles and responsibilities

    • Work with the P&PA to keep key documents updated including presentations and spreadsheets
    • Review and keep up to date with the social media presence of rare disease PAOs, to look for news, trends and key updates
    • Support the teams administrative needs including organising meetings, writing up notes and tracking actions
    • Support the team to work with Amicus country affiliates to identify opportunities for further patient engagement within Amicus programmes.
    • Support the translations and roll out of disease awareness materials through appropriate approvals processes
    • Identify mission moments - videos and other content that support Team Amicus to stay mission focussed.
    • Ad hoc support for projects as needed, e.g. Champions programme, Global Capacity Building, Charitable Contributions

    Requirements

    • Familiar with Microsoft Office software, especially Powerpoint and Excel
    • An interest in a future career in healthcare or associated life sciences arena with a focus on patient advocacy in a corporation, clinical research institute or not for profit
    • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with other members of the department and interact with various internal and external stakeholders (i.e., across functions and geographies)

    Role details

    • The candidate will be based in the UK and would be able to travel to our International HQ, in Marlow at least one to two days a week. However, we are willing to consider remote working (10% of time in the Marlow office) for the right candidate.
    • We are willing to explore both full and part time options for the role with the candidate.
    • The internship will run until Christmas 2023, but we are open to conversations about shorter periods of employment.
