The role
We are delighted to announce that we are seeking a Materials Engineer to join our growing team at Rugby. Within this role you will support nuclear business projects with specialist materials knowledge across the whole range of products and services. You will offer specialist support for material selection and processing, appropriate to the design and function of the equipment, ensuring that conformity to design intent, codes, standards and quality are all met.
This is a development opportunity and for the right candidate there would be opportunities for professional development into the specialisation of Welding.
Other Responsibilities include;
- Support the maintenance and development of specifications for material and material processing within the context of any applied codes and standards, e.g. Pressure Equipment Directive.
- Execute and support the review of manufacturing methods for production of castings, forgings, fabrications and finishing processes across the full scope of products for the nuclear business.
- Liaise with Supplier Quality Engineers and support with supplier qualification where appropriate.
- Review and respond to supplier derogation requests and non-conformance reports.
- Issue and check technical reports.
- Delivery of technical assessment of non-conformance reports and supplier derogation requests.
- Delivery of material selection advice for Services.
- Participate in cost reduction activities related to material streamlining and harmonization of legacy specifications.
Within this role you will be working on projects with UK Defence customers which will require any individual applying for the role to hold or be capable of getting SC Level clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not have it. Due to the nature of the work an individual is required to be a UK National (as approved by the MOD). Dual passport holders are acceptable if the second country is approved by the vetting authority.
Qualifications
- BEng or MEng in Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or Welding Engineering
- Demonstrable post graduate experience in an engineering metallurgy role, specifically related to high alloy steels would be preferable but not essential
- We welcome applications from recent graduates or those looking to imminently who demonstrate capability and are commitment to development.

- Background or good knowledge in processing of metals (e.g. casting, metal working, fabrication, surface engineering…)
