At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

We are looking for Inclusive Design Consultants to join our Access and Inclusive Environments discipline. Our Access and Inclusive Environments team's inclusive approach includes close working with design teams to identify inclusive solutions, consultation and engagement with user groups, as well as reference to ongoing research and industry-related guidance papers that provide good practice.

Inclusive design reflects the diversity of our communities and allows people to experience and access buildings and facilities in an equal manner – so if the ramp is at the back of the building, away from the entrance, then this is not inclusive. An automatic sliding door that allows everyone to access the building through the same entry point is inclusive. Providing faith facilities, or toilets for diverse gender identities helps recognise the diversity of people using a space and can create a more inclusive environment. Our input helps to identify barriers, and to work with the design team to maximise opportunities for inclusion.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills. You will gain the expertise necessary to become an Access and Inclusive Design Consultant, by working with your team to learn about inclusive design, develop skills and apply them to your own projects. You will also have the opportunity to conduct research and attend courses and conferences.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for individuals with a degree in a subject such as Geography, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Ergonomics, Human Factors, Law, Public Policy, Social Science, Town Planning, Transport Planning, Urban Design or any other related field (this is not an exhaustive list)

The most important quality for this role is that you are passionate about accessibility and inclusive design in the built environment.

We're looking for people who are curious and ready to evolve how you think and work. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same; whilst having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients – we'd like to hear from you.

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025.
