You will gain a thorough understanding and experience of the role of an environmental consultant whilst gaining the breadth of experience needed to achieve your professional qualification.
Overview of role
This is an opportunity for a Graduate Environmental Consultant to join our successful, growing environmental teams in the UK.
- Work across a variety of major projects and frameworks, primarily across the Energy, Water and Transport markets.
- Be part of a wider consulting team, working in a truly integrated and multi-disciplinary way collaborating with our colleagues across the UK and internationally.
- Based in Arup's Cardiff or Bristol office, with an expectation of a high level of mobility between these offices and throughout the UK as projects require.
- Providing robust environmental assessment, and consenting expertise to major energy, water and transport frameworks including focus on resilience, enhancement and sustainability.
- Taking a key role in relationship building and work winning with a focus on the energy, water and transport sectors.
We anticipate this role will be varied but will focus on the collation, interpretation and reporting of environmental data, using a range of GIS tools and other packages.
Your day-to-day responsibilities could include the following
- Conducting desk studies, including sourcing and evaluating environmental information.
- Coordination of internal colleagues and external sub-consultants.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams comprising clients, internal specialists and sub-consultants.
- Preparation of clear and concise statutory and non-statutory environmental reports (PEIR, EIA, HRA, WFD, etc.), permits, licenses and consents in line with legislative requirements.
- Use of ArcGIS and other software to produce high quality drawings to accompany technical reports.
- Managing delivery and budgets on small-scale projects.
- Planning your workload so that you can deliver on time or ahead of target.
- Inputting to the team's research projects.
What are we looking for?
We encourage our Graduate Consultants to demonstrate drive and motivation, a thorough understanding of our sector, and a desire to effectively deliver an excellent technical service to our clients. With a busy, diverse team, we seek individuals who can work flexibly and respond to the needs of our clients. As such, we are looking for the following qualifications, skills, and attributes in you:
- Degree and/or masters in an environmental related topic (minimum 2.1).
- Accreditation with IEMA, IES, CIWEM, or similar.
- Capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary team with other groups (e.g. Ecology, Planning, Landscape, Heritage, etc.).
- Experience in the use of GIS packages (notably ArcGIS).
- An appreciation and understanding of environmental law.
- Capable of identifying issues, risks and opportunities and communicating these to project teams.
You must be available to start this opportunity in September 2022.
