    Launch your career with Arup

Dedicated to sustainable development, Arup is a collective of designers, consultants and experts working globally. Founded to be humane and excellent, we collaborate with our clients and partners using imagination, technology, and rigour to shape a better world.

Arup's pre-university scheme is a nine-month placement programme designed for people who have just completed their A-Levels and who wish to take time out in industry before going to university to study engineering or a related discipline. The scheme will give you the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the role of a design engineer, experience the use of software design programmes and visit sites to see the work undertaken, building on your A-Level knowledge.

The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team, who are working on a wide range of projects, and will gain invaluable experience. You will gain an appreciation of the role of a design engineer, use relevant software design programmes to undertake your work, and might get an opportunity to visit site depending on which project you work on.

Research and advanced analysis are central to our work – we bring to bear the sharpest insight to address intractable problems. Our numerical simulation and optimisation capability is pre-eminent in analysis-led design. We apply it to improve performance and economy not only in blast, impact, vibration and seismic design but also in more conventional design for construction of all types, including refurbishment of existing buildings such as St Pancras International Station.

Our specialist structural engineering experts are pushing forward international design practice. In design for dynamic and environmental loads, our leading wind, vibration and seismic expertise produce advancements that reduce cost and improve performance, including inventive damping systems (St Francis Shangri-La Place).

We bring together multidisciplinary teams to design structural and mechanical systems, from moving stadium roofs to telescope enclosures (European Extremely Large Telescope enclosure), observation wheels (Las Vegas High Roller) and specialist railway equipment. We are world-leaders in the safe design of nuclear material transport packages.

    What we are looking for

    • A-Levels (or equivalent) in Maths and Science (predicted B grade or higher)
    • Offer from or will have an offer before starting from university to study Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering
    • Interest/experience with numerical analysis or simulation
    • Strong analytical skills

    What we offer you

Beyond a great salary and stimulating, technically challenging work, Arup offers a range of additional benefits to its people.
