The role
We have one of the largest specialist wayfinding design teams in the UK. Our team works across all sectors and environment types, providing clients with an eclectic mix of wayfinding design and strategy services. We work on the development of many high profile and market leading wayfinding systems, covering the full end-to-end wayfinding design process in-house.
As part of our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Junior Wayfinding Graphic Designer within our Transportation team located in central London, focusing on providing wayfinding design across a broad range of projects and environment types, such as aviation, education, workplace, mixed-use, transport and urban realm.
Current notable projects include the development of a new wayfinding system for the Barbican Estate, Legible London schemes across the capital, linewide rail wayfinding systems for train operating companies, and commercial office hubs for the UK government. Our team works across our global business and therefore contribute to projects at a national and international scale for many government bodies and the private sector.

This role would initially be on a six-month contract.
Your purpose
The successful candidate will be someone keen to see their career develop, with a desire to take greater ownership and responsibility for technical delivery. The role will involve working primarily in the wayfinding sector but will not preclude opportunities for involvement in a wider range of projects if desired.
This role in an expanding team offers the opportunity for both career progression and wider professional development support. As a member of an enthusiastic and expanding team you will:
- Take responsibility for delivering technical wayfinding design work, such as product design. development, art working or preparing print-ready production files.
- Support your work with a strong narrative and design research.
- Assist in the preparation of bids and marketing materials.
- Pro-actively develop skills both on the job and from formal training.
- Be able to exercise sound judgements, sometimes whilst under pressure of project deadlines, with a problem-solving mindset.
- Work effectively within a team or individually with minimal supervision.
- Have good organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Adopt best practice and adhere to the AtkinsRéalis quality processes in technical delivery on projects.
- Have enthusiasm to develop your career and progress as a design consultant.
What you can bring
Essential
- Degree in Graphic Design, Information Design or other related subject.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Design Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Strong creative flair and passion for environmental graphics, design and strategic thinking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on larger projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
- Practical experience delivering wayfinding design and strategy tasks for clients.
- Knowledge of signage and product design development.
- Graphic / information design experience within transport planning, architecture or urban design related sectors.
- Coordinating and carrying out graphic design packages to a print/production-ready standard.
- Appreciation and delivery of pedestrian movement and information strategies in building and urban realm environments.
