Cutting edge technology at the heart of our business.

Based in the heart of Edinburgh, Baillie Gifford provides investment management services for a wide range of clients globally. We have over 1,700 employees and in excess of £230 billion funds under management. And whilst we’ve been around for more than a century, we’re a firm that’s always looking forward.

Our Information Systems teams underpin everything we do. As the largest department in the firm, we continually push to find better, more effective solutions for every business need. Today, we continue this forward-thinking approach by closely following technical trends, creating innovative teams like our AI Research function, and using the best Cloud and DevOps solutions available.

    Job description

    Structured, in-depth training.

This two-year rotational programme is designed to give you an understanding of the department as a whole, the different teams that operate within it, and the range of technologies we use. So whether you are immersed in the development of new applications or in the optimisation of our enterprise IT, you’ll join us in a permanent role from day one, receive the necessary training to broaden your skills and discover your future potential.

The programme begins with a comprehensive three-month induction. We’ll introduce you to our programming languages, databases and cloud technologies, as well as our DevOps processes. You’ll also receive an overview of the investment management industry and ongoing support to gain the Investment Operations Certificate Qualification (IOC). Following the induction, you’ll form a team with the other trainees to deliver your first live software for the business.

The programme is also underpinned by a structured framework of professional skills training, including presentations, report writing and effective meeting techniques. And your development won’t stop there, as throughout the programme and beyond you’ll have constant opportunities to learn and progress through webinars and conferences.

    Person specification

When we meet, we’ll ask you about your interest in emerging technology and problem-solving approach to technical challenges. We want you to share your thoughts with us on how technology can transform businesses and make them work better. Tell us about your strengths and experiences too. Help us see how you’ll fit into our team.

At Baillie Gifford, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful culture in which each of our colleagues can thrive and develop. We believe that our clients are best served by a diverse workforce with the experiences, ideas and perspectives that this brings.
