    Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for this exciting new post within NWORTH, the Clinical Trials Unit at Bangor University. This post is focused on developing a statistician with the practical skills to work on our portfolio of clinical trials.

    Working as part of a highly motivated team of statisticians, the post-holder will contribute to a range of grant submissions and active studies being undertaken at the Unit.

    The role

    The post-holder will be mentored closely by the Senior Statistician and will be provided with development opportunities to enable them to become involved in all statistical aspects of proposal development, study design, analysis and dissemination. In addition, they will work with the Director of NWORTH and/or Principal Statistician to help in the development of relevant methodological projects being undertaken at the Unit. The successful candidate should have a BSc (Hons) in Statistics or Mathematics. They will have excellent IT skills, including familiarity with at least one statistical software package. They must be able to demonstrate strong quantitative, data management, and data analysis skills. Excellent team working, written and oral communication skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise and time-manage work activities.

    The role is full-time (1fte) and is initially available for a period of one year, with the potential for this being extended should the post-holder meet the expectations of this rapidly developing Unit. Part time / Job Share will be considered.

    This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

    Applications will also be considered to carry out this role on a part-time or job share basis.

    Main Duties and responsibilities

    • Contribute to the design, management, and analysis of specific studies on the NWORTH portfolio.
    • Contribute to the development of statistical aspects of grant applications and clinical trial protocols.
    • Contribute to the development of relevant methodological projects at the Unit.
    • Prepare file specifications for data capture and output.
    • Contribute to analysis plans for interim and final analysis.
    • Conduct or supervise checks on data completeness and data accuracy.
    • Contribute to the design, testing and delivery of study/trial databases.
    • Work with project specific data managers and the IT team on data completeness and accuracy and managing statistical aspects of trials/studies.
    • Support data capture and data entry within the NWORTH Clinical Trials Unit portfolio of clinical trials.
    • Collate and input clinical data into Electronic Data Capture systems such as MACRO and REDCap.

    • Maintain the security of research data obtained and observe confidentiality at all times regarding participants and their involvement.

    • The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

    Qualifications and training

    Essential

    • BSc (Hons) in Statistics or Mathematics
    • Experience/Knowledge
    • Excellent IT Skills
    • Demonstrable experience of at least one statistical software package

    Desirable

    • Experience of statistical analyses associated with randomised clinical trials
    • Experience of designing and developing research

    • Demonstrate a willingness to develop research proposals that are compatible with NWORTH’s aims.
