Why the Marketing Summer Intern programme?
In Marketing, you’ll help attract and retain customers and clients, communicating the benefits of banking with Barclays. Driven by commercial objectives, the team develops plans to promote our services and win business.
Roles include everything from branding to advertising, social media to digital marketing, plus events, sponsorships and sales collateral. Working on diverse projects with this fast-paced team, you’ll learn how to communicate effectively and creatively across a range of marketing channels.
Real responsibility, right away
Whether you work in Barclays UK, Corporate or Group Sponsorship Marketing, every day is different. This fast-moving area will see you take on varied and creative tasks, but you need to be organised and on top of new developments, whether that’s in your industry or in current affairs.
A ‘normal’ day could start with a breakfast seminar for clients in central London, before a meeting with corporate bankers to plan an event focused on technology and global business. You might then spend the remainder of the afternoon working on a number of other smaller project, potentially including:
- Working together with Barclays’ external creative agencies
- Honing your skills as you help us market through social media
- Liaising with internal stakeholders to understand commercial objectives

Purpose of the role
To participate in the attraction and retention of customers and clients, communicating the benefits of banking with Barclays, working on diverse projects, including branding, advertising, social media, digital marketing, events, sponsorships, and sales collateral.
Accountabilities
- Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for marketing.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
- Participation in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, management of the deployment and launch of new products and services for marketing.
- Management of client relationships and provision of customer service support to clients and customers, under steadily decreasing supervision, responding to questions about products and services, processing of transactions, and resolution of customer complaints.
