We are seeking an enthusiastic Junior Azure Data Engineer to join our Group Data Office (GDO). This role is perfect for someone early in their career or transitioning into data engineering, with a strong eagerness to learn and grow. You will receive training and hands-on experience to develop skills in building and maintaining data solutions using Azure technologies, supporting enterprise analytics, and contributing to exciting data-driven projects.

Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, this role supports the Data Engineering Team in building and maintaining our Azure data platform. As part of a collaborative environment, you will work alongside experienced professionals to learn how to build data pipelines, integrate third-party data, and support Power BI data model development.

You will be expected to

  • Learn how to design and implement Azure Data Lake Storage solutions to support analytics and reporting needs.
  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines for Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) operations from various enterprise systems into the ADL.
  • Receive training to support the integration of Azure Synapse into our data ecosystem.
  • Develop foundational skills in coding best practices, such as code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Work on tasks involving APIs and data exchange between systems.
  • Learn about data formats like XML and JSON and their transport over secure protocols (e.g., HTTPS).
  • Participate in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) with a focus on learning and contributing to testing, deployment, and maintenance activities.

What you'll need

To be successful in the role, we are looking for

  • A genuine eagerness to learn and develop a career in data engineering.
  • A basic understanding or exposure to cloud technologies (e.g., Azure or similar).
  • A problem-solving mindset and a willingness to take on challenges.
  • Interest in coding principles and foundational programming skills in languages like Python, PySpark, or similar.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with an open attitude toward feedback and guidance.

The following would also be advantegous to be successful in the role

  • Exposure to or interest in data engineering concepts such as data pipelines, APIs, and cloud-based storage.
  • Awareness of tools like Azure Data Lake, Synapse, or other cloud warehousing technologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile project delivery or DevOps practices is a plus.
  • Coursework, certifications, or training in Azure or data-related fields.
