InfoSec is the specialist team within BBC Design & Engineering that helps keep BBC information secure. Our team advises on best practice, deals with threats and manages potential cyber-attacks across the BBC globally.
This Junior Officer role is to support the delivery of the Information Security (IS) Strategy across the BBC. Reporting to the Information Security Management Team or IS Specialist , the post is responsible for ensuring that data within the BBC is protected, in accordance with the needs of the business and according to Information Security principles of availability, integrity and confidentiality. Role responsibility
- Assist with the effective operation of information security through the provision of system, policy and procedural advice to the business and 3rd party partners and suppliers
- Develop relationships with personnel both within the BBC and 3rd party partners ensuring correct completion of relevant technical and process documentation
- Build relationships across the BBC to identify and resolve security threats and maintain secure systems.
- Ensure knowledge and understanding keeps pace with the ever changing technologies and threats posed to the BBC through own development
- Provide input into Information Security Bulletins on vulnerabilities that affect BBC Users and Divisions
- Help to develop awareness materials so that Information Security briefs to staff across the BBC, including journalists, presenters, and managers responsible for strategy, will be able to fully understand the complex and ever-changing nature of the cyber-related risks they must counter
- Assist with the reporting and escalation where appropriate of any identified risks or threats to BBC Data
- Assist in ensuring that Information Security policies, related standards and guidelines are applied effectively across the business and systems
- Maintain high standards and reflect this through Information Security output
- Facilitate the ongoing development of information security policy and processes
- Produce regular management reports on the status of own Information Security tasks
- Promote the Information Security team at internal and external meetings and forums as required.
- Assist with IS improvement programme projects.
The ideal candidate
We’re looking for talented individuals who possess technology experience. You might not have a specific information security background but you’ll have a demonstrable understanding of information Security.
The Ideal candidate will have:
- Basic infrastructure and technology experience, with an understanding of security issues in critical environments
- Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Confidence to make decisions and to ask for assistance when necessary
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work streams effectively and prioritise accordingly, seeking guidance when appropriate.
- Be able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
- Highly effective analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Motivated to develop a career in Information Security and technology
- Basic understanding of the importance of information security to the business
- Experience of Information Security/IT Technology at a practical level
- Basic understanding of the technologies and architectures supporting information security systems and workflows with a good grasp of information security principles and best practice
- Ability to assist in planning and process improvement activities.
- Awareness of IS27001:2013.
Desirable for the role
- Previous experience of BBC, public sector or other media organisations.
- Understands security as an enabler to the business.
- Basic infrastructure and technology background including an understanding of security management
- Background in formal study of information technology or information security
Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Information Security, or related IT disciplines, preferred but not essential
- Other relevant technical professional qualifications preferred but not essential
