    About R&D

    The Research and Development (R&D) department are responsible for the entire design and development process of all Bentley products, from idea creation all the way through to engineering sign off. Our mission is to inspire our customers by creating extraordinary products through passion, collaboration and sustainable innovation. Our R&D team consists of six departments: Products & Concepts, Body & Trim, Electrical & Electronics, Vehicle Motion, Whole Vehicle Engineering and Technical Conformity.

    As an Industrial placement at Bentley you will be working alongside and mentored by R&D industry technical experts, giving you real-life tangible experience to elevate your career journey in R&D.

    Materials development

    The Materials Development Team develop the new, luxury and sustainable materials to be used in the Bentley interior of future programs. This team focuses on improving, refining and validating the use of new technologies. Working with and being mentored by experienced materials engineers, you’ll get real insight into the implications of introducing new luxury finishes that continuously refreshes our product, an understanding of how we interface with various stakeholders and test the technical viability of such proposals. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Proposing and evaluating solutions to technical challenges that meet all technical, compliance, sustainability, commercial and aesthetic requirements
    • Implementing process improvements either using digital tools or procedure optimisation
    • Work from design briefs to feasible and automotive ready material applications to project manage and support team members

    About you

    The successful candidates will be on track to achieve a 2:1 in the following degrees: Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Environmental Science. It would be advantageous to have prior work experience of material activity e.g. wood working, and an eye for finding innovative solutions. The successful candidate will:
