Birkbeck's Law School is seeking a part-time Intern & Editorial Assistant to work on the journal Law and Critique.
This is a unique training opportunity for a MPhil/PhD student at the Law School. The post will enable you to gain knowledge of the internal workings of academic journals, as well as a current working knowledge of emerging research in critical legal studies.
Law and Critique is the prime international critical legal theory journal. It has been published for 25 years and is associated with the Critical Legal Conference. The Intern will work alongside the Managing Editors of the Journal, Professor Fiona Macmillan and Professor Emilios Christodoulidis, and will develop invaluable generic skills for their future academic career.
What you'll do
Duties will include using the publisher’s online submission, review, and article management system to manage submissions to the journal; organising the review and decision-making processes, communicating with authors and referees, communicating with members of the editorial committee, arranging the meetings of the editorial committee, taking and producing minutes of editorial meetings, desk-editing and proof-reading formatting, checking and scheduling copy, working with copy and production editors of the journal.
The intern will work for a maximum of six hours per week. There will be the opportunity to work these hours flexibly depending on the needs of the publishing cycle. The journal is published in three issues per year.
