    The role

    The school has an exciting vacancy and would like to appoint an enthusiastic and organised technician with a background ideally in electronics engineering to join the multidisciplinary technical team.

    The primary responsibility of the role is to support the day-to-day activities of the Technical Team reporting to the technical manager. The post holder will participate in the organisation and delivery of taught practical sessions and will be responsible for advising on and assisting with the manufacture of a variety of articles for students and research projects. It is a hands-on and student-facing role requiring excellent communication skills and a creative and flexible approach to training people from a wide range of backgrounds, creating an inspiring learning environment. The successful applicant will be responsible for promoting a health and safety orientated culture and will be expected to operate a range of equipment and facilities within the department.

    The job is full time and would suit candidates with previous technical experience working as a placement student or similar.

    Main duties and responsibilities

    • Provide specialist technical support with an ability to engage the interest of students and support their learning, primarily related to electronic prototyping, manufacturing and assisting in other labs and workshop as needed.
    • Make the best use of technical resources and develop technical support services to meet emerging needs working with students, academic colleagues, and external clients.
    • Demonstrate the use of specialist lab equipment.

    About you

    • A degree in a relevant subject (or working towards and on-target)
    • Practical experience of delivery within a technical electronics environment
    • A willingness to be adaptable and positive attitude towards learning and sharing new skills especially in the fields of robotics, controls, software and mechatronics.

    Desirable

    • A working knowledge of analogue and digital electronic principles, controls and automation, CAD, prototyping, and manufacturing processes and such as laser and chemical etching, milling, drilling, pick and place, soldering and testing.
    • An understanding of relevant health and safety requirements
