Blackstar Amplification is looking to recruit a guitar-playing Graduate Product Tester/Electronics Lab Technician to work closely with our R&D team.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to gain commercial experience with our electronics and product team, where full training will be given on the job.
You will primarily be tasked with testing an array of guitar amplifiers and musical products, through all development and test stages, throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
You will also be heavily involved with supporting our electronic engineers, maintaining the workspace, and assisting with low-level electronics activities (soldering, modification, testing etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting in day-to-day R&D new product development activities
- General duties within the department, such as keeping laboratories and sound-room tidy and well stocked
- Testing audio products according to an entire test plan
- Setting up and performing sound tests and competitor evaluations
- Assisting in the building and testing of prototypes
- Sourcing components for prototype production and testing
- Writing and performing new product test procedures and recording/presenting results
- Creation and maintenance of parts lists and associated documentation on assigned projects
- The maintenance and filing of approvals documentation
- Update the RFC, Concession, Sample and Drawing Number Registers weekly following the relevant QMS process
- Coordinating activities between the UK and China design resources on given projects
- Updating the R&D manager daily and providing written reports
The Ideal Candidate
The ideally sought candidate will possess the following:
- Academic or commercial experience with hands-on electronics
- A demonstrable aptitude for electronics. Will have been interested in guitar amps, consumer electronics and circuitry, or mechanical construction/design as a hobby or in a previous role
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills at all levels
- Enthusiastic, conscientious, committed and dependable
- Enthusiastic, motivated and self-starting. Somebody who wants to make a difference.
- Approachable team player with a strong interest in music
- Guitar or bass player with the ability to set up different guitar/ pedal/ amp setups etc.
Experience/Knowledge
- Knowledge of general electronics
- Some experience in design in a fast-moving engineering environment
- Some experience of high voltage valve equipment
- Some experience in fault testing and diagnosis
- Knowledge of CAD PCB design
