    BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines, and precision machining key engine components, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

    Process Engineering Development 13 Month Placement

    We are looking an intern to join our Planning team for 13 months commencing July 2023. The role is based in our Machining function, we have 3 high volume, flexible production lines and the role is to manage and develop innovative digital engineering solutions to support the business. Our team is based in the same open plan office and all the engineering support departments and the IT department and interns act as an interface between all areas of the business working in this field. We have focused over the last years on raising our capacity in the field of innovation and digitalisation and there is now a need to have engineering capacity to support the delivery of these concepts into our production systems.

    What will you be doing?

    • Identifying opportunities to incorporate innovative digital solutions into our processes.
    • Acting as an interface between the IT innovations teams and the engineering teams to deliver into the process lines improvements.
    • Using digitalisation methods to streamline pre-existing solutions in the business.
    • Work with the IT Digitalisation Teams to support with Engineering input via business case creation, risk analysis, implementation plans, and overall project delivery.

    Qualifications

    • Studying towards a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing Engineering or other relevant field and on track to achieve a 2:2 or above.
    • An understanding and interest in digitalisation and IT systems.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • High intrinsic motivation and creativity.
    • Good project management skills and entrepreneurial thinking.
    • Ability to co-operate and work well within a team.
