    We are seeking an intern to join the Materials engineers of the Rolls-Royce Materials and process analysis team.

    You will work with the other members of the team using analytical equipment to provide credible and accurate data. This together with their technical expertise you will acquire, will enable you to create reports that will influence decision making across the business.

    This role will see interaction with colleagues at all levels of the business and with products at all stages of the product life cycle.

    We are looking at a student in the field of engineering or process analysis (Mechanical engineering, product engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry) that has shown an interest in the broad practical and theoretical understanding of materials and the associated analytical techniques.

    The work will involve validation tests and failure analysis.

    Technology Material and Process Analysis

    The Materials and process analysis team (TWA) supports Rolls-Royce motor cars by providing a fault finding and validation service. This encompasses all materials used in Rolls-Royce from plastic to leather from paint to wood.

    TWA carries out its duty by utilizing scientific equipment to obtain results that can be used to understand how a material or process behaves and if it fulfils the requirements.

    What will you be doing?

    • Your main responsibilities will be to carry out tests as requested by our internal partners during your intern period you will work in all areas of TWA
    • Materials and process analysis in Goodwood has a wide scope and you will be required to help in the day-to-day activities gaining an extended knowledge on automotive materials.

    Topics previous interns worked on are

    • Validation of wood and leather parts for new models
    • Validation of bespoke features such as illuminated doors, evaluation of the suitability of precious metals for use in automotive applications (Gold, mother of pearl, etc etc)
    • Failure analysis of case occurring in the plant or in the field
      • Failure analysis of components and reporting.
      • Advising practical solutions by identifying and performing critical tests to provide data to influence the decision making process.
      • Collaborative working as part of cross-functional team.

    The position will suit a candidate that wants to combine technical knowledge and practical application of such knowledge.

    Qualification

    • Interested in material science or process analysis
    • Studying for an engineering with a focus on materials or process such as: Mechanical engineering, Chemical engineering, production engineering, material science, chemistry, or similar degrees.
    • A good aptitude to practical aspects of engineering would be advantageous
