    The Government Affairs team in Westminster is part of Boeing International. Its job is to monitor the political and governmental landscape within the UK, and influence it in line with Boeing’s wider business objectives and strategy.

    The team’s principal function is to manage Boeing’s relationship with the UK Government. This includes politicians in the Houses of Parliament and Whitehall departments. This is done in the most part through advocacy. The team also takes the lead on political-themed issues that affect Boeing businesses, such as Environmental Regulation, Corporate Social Responsibility; and specific thematic issues.

    The role

    This internship will offer a chance for a bright, personable, ambitious and enthusiastic individual to develop an in-depth understanding of UK politics and government and the interaction with a major international company.

    The Government Affairs team workload is continuously growing in the current external political, security and economic environment and events which have significant effects on Boeing businesses, which the Government Affairs team are monitoring. An intern would be employed in a secretariat function. The intern’s responsibilities would include detailed research and analysis of the political and governmental landscape, to routinely produce products to support the operations and business development of Boeing UK businesses.

    In addition, the intern would support the rest of the BI team in developing the evidence behind targeted advocacy, through a development and understanding of the Government Affairs intelligence picture. The intern would help produce key briefing material to help prepare seniors for meetings with UK government, in line with Government Affairs strategy.

    The applicant’s role and responsibilities will include:

    • Conducting research and analysis to develop a unique intelligence picture of the current and future political landscape. This will inform the Government Affairs Team’s strategy and advocacy, across the following subject areas:
    • Party Politics
    • Defence and Security
    • Commercial Aviation and UK Aviation Strategy
    • Industrial Strategy
    • International Relations
    • Environment and Climate
    • Manage Boeing UK’s input to regular Global Government Affairs reports.
    • Support senior leaders with bespoke, ad hoc projects often in support of business capture activities.
    • Support set-piece engagement events, including those in the Houses of Parliament and Defence Trade Shows, such as the Royal International Air Tattoo.

    The intern will be exposed to the following development opportunities:

    • Understanding of senior leadership, management, strategy and decision making of an international multi-billion pound company (based in the Head Office, UK)
    • Understanding of the key issues and challenges of the Defence and Aerospace sector
    • Developing a comprehensive understanding of the machinations and structures of government
    • Developing political acumen, and understanding of how the politics-of-the-day impacts on government policy
    • Understanding the interactions of government and business
    • Developing critical thinking, analysis and judgment skills.
    • Developing influence, political and diplomatic skills.
    • Potential travel to other European capitals.
