We are looking for a highly organised, creative, and proactive rights assistant with a love for books and an interest in other cultures to join our dynamic and friendly department, supporting the team and selling rights in minor territories.
The role
The role would suit someone with an understanding of Publishing and Rights who is passionate about starting a career in the industry and using their language skills. It is a highly varied role, busy and exciting with many opportunities to learn and participate in all aspects of our job.
This is a hybrid role, with two days in the office and three working from home.
Key responsibilities
- Providing full administrative support to the Adult Rights team
- Selling translation rights in minor markets
- Handling domestic rights e.g. large print deals and permissions requests
- Participating in bookfairs
- Drawing up and tracking progress of sub-licence contracts
- Submitting materials to customers and negotiating offset and file fees
- Overseeing monthly invoicing and approving royalty payments in conjunction with Accounts
- General office administration including database maintenance and running regular Biblio reports
- Co-ordinating book fair schedules and trip preparations and follow-up
- Preparing and updating rights guides for book fairs and foreign visits
Qualifications and experience
- Introductory knowledge of Publishing and Rights
- Great communication and numeracy skills
- Administrative excellence and a sharp eye for detail
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Knowledge and/or fluency in languages other than English would be an advantage
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Knowledge of Biblio and InDesign is preferred but not essential
