We have a brand new opportunity for a graduate to join the newly established policy and public affairs team at Bridgend County Borough Council. You will work on projects including corporate planning, policy development, media monitoring and supporting the development of the council’s public affairs strategy, gaining on the job training, skills and experience to pursue a career in policy or public affairs.
We are looking for an energetic, motivated individual with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and good ICT skills, with experience of using Microsoft Office products or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Undertake horizon scanning and research on specific corporate issues and provide options appraisals, briefings and/or impact assessments on them to Managers, Corporate Directors and politicians.
- Collate briefings on issues from across the Council for regional and national meetings.
- Undertake regular, weekly, horizon scanning of public affairs issues and priorities and a briefing for council officers and members.
- Work in conjunction with the central Communications team to develop and undertake a regular media monitoring process for the Council, and collate insights that support, enhance and improve the Council’s communications and publicity work.
- Support the Corporate Public Affairs Manager producing briefings, reports and communications on specific issues and investigations for internal and external dissemination.

- Degree qualified
- Experience of conducting research, analysing data and using evidence to draw conclusions and propose recommendations
- Excellent communication and presentational skills, with the ability to articulate judgements confidently and clearly both on paper and in person.
- Excellent IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office
