    This role is part of BAT Biotechnology Team - builds genomic and synthetic biology capabilities to bioengineer sustainable supply options for future products. The intern will work with our world-class scientists who strive to understand metabolic pathways and design strategies that aim at maximising yield while maintaining chemical properties.

    What you'll be accountable for

    • Perform cloning of constructs and transformation in different cell lines or organisms.
    • Communicate scientific findings to different audiences: This will give the intern the opportunity to build strong presentation skills and tailor their communication style to different audiences (specialists and non-specialists).
    • Gain experience in the world of biotechnology and in particular the bioengineering and bioprocessing, which is at the heart of R&D in biopharma and consumer goods industries.
    • Understand how to operate in a very collaborative R&D environment and build a strong professional network.
    • Learn critical thinking from a scientific perspective (project and experimental design, troubleshooting methods) and a business perspective (market value of compounds tested, evaluation of cost of good and creation of a competitive advantage from price, quality, and impact on environment perspectives).
    • Working in safe controlled laboratory environment.

    Essential experience, skills and knowledge

    • Current undergraduate in Life Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Organic chemistry.
    • Bold decision making.

    • Scientific curiosity and critical thinking.
    • Communication skills with specialist and non-specialist audiences, Data analysis and interpretation.
