What sort of projects would I work on?

The work the Bath Infrastructure team undertakes is diverse in terms of scale, location, development type and the point at which we are engaged through the life of the project. We strive to ensure that our graduates are given the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of projects to broaden your skills during the early stages or your career.

Our expertise ranges from city scale master planning through to campus and building scale development infrastructure.  Here are some of the projects that we are currently engaged on:

Stadia and Arena Claimed to be the largest building construction project currently in the UK, our team has been busy with the start on site at Everton. We have been working on this project providing all infrastructure design from site selection stage through to our current engagement for the contractor, as their designer. We have also overseen the completion of the new Compton and Edrich stands at Lord's Cricket Ground.  Our team have also been designing the new Co-op arena in Manchester - the largest capacity indoor Arena in Europe, which has just started on site.

In the Southwest we look to be busy with local UK projects in the southwest well into next year.  We will be working with the client and architecture team to update the masterplan for Temple Island in Bristol and will be starting the design of the first phase infrastructure.  We are continuing to support the development of Bristol University’s TQEC campus and have secured the next stage for Bath Western Riverside, on our doorstep.

Healthcare  - We recently have delivered 2 large masterplan projects for Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar working alongside international architects for whole city districts. In parallel we were engaged on an exciting research project for the same client to define a prototype for the Hospital of the Future, a very topical subject in the current climate. We are also currently working with the Guys and St Thomas Trust in London, Hampshire Hospital Trust and a community hospital in London.

Internationally our focus has seen us deliver large scale and complex projects successfully and through fantastic team efforts across the year. In Saudi Arabia we are engaged on the design of the Royal Arts Complex and King Salman Park, 2 significant cultural and public realm developments. We are also the lead engineers, master planning Qiddiya, a new city for 600,000 people spanning incredible terrain including a 300m high cliff in a challenging desert context. Another major project for our team currently is Sabah Al Ahmed, Sea City in Kuwait. We have worked on this for 20 years and this is now the second major phase that we are designing.

    What would I do?

“I’m in the infrastructure department and have mainly been working on masterplans at quite a high level as well as detailed design, which I love. My roles have been mainly to do with designing network routes for various utilities as well as costing different bits of infrastructure and advising clients on what options are feasible or likely to be within budget. On my current project I’ve been more involved in the management and coordination of a small team as well as pulling together the costing and phasing plan of a massive new city in the Far East whilst still getting to grips with the nitty gritty of highways design.” – Graduate Infrastructure Engineer
