    The Digital, Data and Technology profession are excited to announce the brand new Government Software Development Graduate Scheme.

    About the role

    Digital services have become incredibly important to the way we live our lives, especially since Covid entered our lives, and that is no different within the Civil Service. The need for interactive and speedy services are a critical part of the Government's digital transformation to make products and services easier for the public have never been more important.

    We are looking for talented graduates who have a passion for technology and who are excited about making a difference to the services offered to the general public. During the course of this 2 year scheme you will work across different teams to develop your skills to become proficient in different types of coding platforms.

    What you'll do

    • You will design, code, test, correct and document simple programmes of scripts
    • You will work as part of a team to support the design components for large projects
    • You will develop an understanding of the types of security controls used to mitigate security threats

    Who you are

    • We are looking for candidates who have or are predicted to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject area
    • Due to the technical nature of this scheme, candidates will need to have some working knowledge of at least programming language.
    • A strong desire to work with technology
    • Good communications skills
    • A desire to develop yourself during the duration of this scheme and beyond
    • Enthusiasm to work as part of a team, including supporting colleagues to deliver great results

    Security

    Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.

    People working with government assets must complete basic personnel security standard checks.

    Selection process details

    This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

    Application process

    As part of this application process, you will be asked to complete an application form which will help us to understand more about you.
    You will be asked to complete a personal statement, a Technical skill and some questions which will help us to understand your motivation for joining the scheme and your current level of experience.

    Further details around what this will entail will be listed on your application form.

    Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be undertaken using the Technical Skill.

    Candidates that successfully pass the 1st stage of the process will then be invited to complete some technical tests. Initially you will be invited to complete a Civil Service Judgement Test, and if successful you will then be invited to a coding test.

    Full details and instruction regarding each test will be provided to those who are successful at sift.

    Interview

    If successful at testing stage, you will be invited to interview where you will be assessed on experience, behaviours and technical skills.

    As part of this interview you will also be asked to do a presentation on a topic which will be provided nearer the time.
