We are looking for students or recent graduates who would like to be considered for a 3-month paid Internship between June and August 2022.
We are recruiting Interns for two topic areas:
Clinical Project: Outcome prediction in ICU patients
The clinical intern will work with multimodality medical data within the context of clinical decision support (CDS) systems that are used by clinicians to aid decision-making for diagnostic or management purposes. The project scope will include review and interpretation of medical datasets, alongside clinical evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) model predictions. They will work in a multidisciplinary AI team with clinical staff, scientists, and software engineers.
Applicants should have some undergraduate medical or biomedical knowledge that they are keen to build on, for example a pre-clinical medical student. The project will require understanding and interpretation of medical documentation, for example discharge letters, and laboratory reports. The applicant will be conscientious, and analytical with a good attention to detail. Any additional experience with medical documentation or the use of clinical calculators/scoring systems is a bonus.
Project 1 (applications are welcomed from)
• Pre-clinical or intercalating medical students who can commit to a 3-month summer internship
• Biomedical or allied healthcare professional undergraduates on course to achieve 2:1 or higher
Bioinformatics Project: Genome sequence raw read processing pipeline
The bioinformatics intern will work with genome sequencing data (e.g., FASTQ format) sequenced from tumour biopsies as part of a clinical study. The project aim is to construct a processing pipeline using bioinformatics tools, including quality control, alignment and variant calling to deliver point, copy number and structural variants. The biological significance of these variants across the cohort will then be considered in the context of clinical outcome metadata.
Applicants should have or be working towards a bioinformatics degree and some experience of working with sequencing data. They should have good informatics skills, including familiarity with Linux command line, Bash, Python or R.
Project 2 (applications are welcomed from)
• Third year (entering final year after the summer) or Final year undergraduates on course to achieve 2:1 or higher
• Early-stage postgraduate students (MSc or PhD)
These are excellent opportunities to gain relevant work experience through joining a dynamic, innovative team developing industry-leading medical technology. The work is fast paced and intellectually stimulating.
We aim to offer an inclusive, flexible and balanced working environment, by being an employer that cares for and respects its employees. We are part of a global family, that works closely with other development teams based in Japan, America, Canada and France.
