    An exciting opportunity working as a Catastrophe Risk Analyst within a well-established, highly motivated team that enjoys a close working relationship with the underwriters and an ability to meaningfully influence the risk selection process.

    The role

    The successful candidate will utilise cutting edge proprietary tools to provide technical advice, support and exposure management for the Global Reinsurance portfolio. You will take ownership of current processes and modelling methods, and look to develop and improve these to reach primary Cat Team goals:

    • How do we as a Cat team use models to drive more value and profit in Canopius?
    • How do we manage the non-modelled exposures to avoid unanticipated losses and encourage the practices of a diverse profitable portfolio?
    • How do we provide market leading Cat bet analytics?

    Responsibilities:

    • Active involvement in developing relationships with underwriters with the aim of integrating underwriting and Cat frameworks and goals – this involves confident and timely delivery of analytics and the ability to explain how these analytics can help drive risk selection
    • Use RMS and various other tools to identify catastrophe exposure on an account and portfolio basis
    • Create a narrative based on the modelling data and other sources to effectively provide a valuable summary of a certain risk and give advice to UW on the strengths and weaknesses of both the data and the model’s ability to provide meaningful results - this includes translating the concept of uncertainty
    • Working closely with underwriters to drive decision making for complex risks that fall outside of scope of vendor models including complex reinsurance structures and non-modelled risks
    • Devise and manage projects that contribute to innovation within the catastrophe modelling realm
    • Have the confidence to drive process change by overhauling existing processes and implementing methodologies that streamline workflow and processes
    • Contribute to internal and regulatory reporting including quarterly roll ups and RDS submissions

    Skills and Experience:

    • Cat Modelling experience in any business line, who is either ready take their next step to develop their career as Treaty Analyst or would be new to Treaty and keen to learn about Treaty modelling and develop as a Treaty Analyst
    • A degree in an analytical discipline (Maths, Science, Engineering or Economics)
    • Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is a must
    • Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel and SQL skills.
    • Ability to build/design and manipulate queries to improve process
    • Excellent business communication skills - ability to influence, negotiate, and listen to external parties and members of the Cat Team
    • Be a creative, self-starter with the ability to apply knowledge to solve complex issues as they arise
