Job purpose and impact
Cargill’s Manchester plant is a production facility which is key to the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.
The position holder will be based in the Process Control and Automation department support the maintenance and engineering teams with key activities.
The role is a permanent full time position (Monday-Friday) based at the Manchester site. We can consider both more Junior applicants (recent graduates and or with several years of experience) willing to learn and be mentored as well as experienced Automation Engineers.
Key accountabilities
- Support the development and implementation of the automation scope for new projects and existing applications as a team member in the Process Control and Automation department
- Support the development and updates of software for DCS and HMI applications
- Collaborate with other departments in the execution of projects related to process control
- Support reliability improvements and in the event of any changes/ modifications, ensure they follow a documented management of change process
- Champion an environment of reliability excellence through support the maintenance department
- Maintain DCS systems hardware and provide technical troubleshooting and loop tuning support
- Partner with the Plant IT function to troubleshoot issues related to manufacturing execution systems
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in Engineering (Controls, Automation, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering)
- Practical experience in functional and technical design in automation, process control or manufacturing execution systems as an Engineer ideally in the food/ chemicals industry
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of ABB 800xA or Schneider Foxboro DCS
- Knowledge of OSIsoft PI
