Job purpose and impact
Cargill’s Manchester plant is a production facility which is key to the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will be part of a local trainee scheme for recent Mechanical Engineering Graduates, where we aim to develop diverse talent towards future subject matter expertise roles / managerial roles for our Maintenance & Engineering function. In this role you will be mentored by more Senior members of the Maintenance & Reliability function to develop your Engineering skillset focused on Non-Destructive Testing and Inspections of a variety of Mechanical Assets on the Manchester site.
The role is a permanent full time position (Monday-Friday) based at the Manchester site.
Key accountabilities
- Assist in the execution of the site Mechanical Integrity program, identifying, testing , monitoring and implementing the program on mechanical, structural and piping equipment
- Support the deployment of current standards and procedures by setting up reporting mechanisms to execute the plan and develop the future roadmap
- Provide support and delivery of services for the location
- Support the site by identifying and reporting issues generated from the routine inspections and escalating remedial works required to the Maintenance Manager
- Monitor, track and report audit control mechanisms to identify to ensure compliance to the plan and to deliver improvements
- Perform safety compliance tasks aligned to applicable regulations
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering - Knowledge/ experience of Non Destructive Testing and or Metallurgy would be useful but not required
Preferred qualifications
- Practical experience in the Manufacturing Industry or experience through an internship/ year in industry
- Proven natural leadership ability and interpersonal skills
- Able to work as part of a team structure and independently
- Willing to take responsibility and initiative
