Caterpillars Operational Section Managers will work as part of a dynamic team onsite at our Stafford facility. You will have responsibility for managing a production schedule and designated value stream. You will be responsible for meeting Caterpillars goals for People, Quality, Velocity, and cost that support our Stafford operation. This role will include people directly reporting into yourself. You will lead a team living our Values to achieve operational excellence and surpass our customer’s experience.

What experiences can we offer you
The Operations Section Manager Graduate will be a key member of the Operations team and report to the Operations Group Manager. Required to generate, communicate and manage facility improvement projects to support our continued journey to operational excellence. Work will encompass all aspects of Safety, Quality, Velocity and Cost helping to deliver on key business deliverables. The individual will need to work collaboratively across ALL teams within the facility, to ensure projects are delivered to support our business objectives.
As an Operational Section manager Graduate, your responsibilities are to include
- Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean production environment.
- Determines processing needs to assure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet schedules and production requirements
- Daily tie-in with production management to designate work load, priorities and sequence
- Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Works to improve processes, timelines and reduce no value added activities.
- Ensures the quality of Product produced and conforms to Caterpillars quality Policy whilst maintaining cost
- Ensure necessary parts and materials are ordered and distributed in a timely and efficient manner
- Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S. LEAN, 6 Sigma and CQMS/ISO certifications
- Responsible for training and development of staff, time keeping, estimating personnel needs, assigning work and ensuring consistent application or organizational needs

Who are we looking for
It is essential that applicants should have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Business Management or Manufacturing Engineering.
In addition, whilst we acknowledge some applicants may not have specific skills relating the below items, the business will support the development of the successful candidate to fulfil the skills required for this role:
- Good Human relations skills required to develop cooperative work relationships
- Supervisory experience is desirable
- Must be willing to work outside of normal hours including overtime and shift work where required
- Knowledge of manufacturing concepts such as 5S, Lean, CI, Process auditing, Safety Management
- Good MS Office IT skills
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload whilst ensuring defined goals are met
- Must be self-motivated, have a can-do attitude to take ownership of issues / deliver sustainable improvements and be an effective team player with the ability to communicate across all functions within business
