    What do we do?

    Spending your placement within Caterpillar’s Information Services team will give you a broad experience in all disciplines of Information Services, covering some of the selected applications used within end-to-end business processes (Engineering, Manufacturing, Enterprise Resource Planning, Finance, Sales and Marketing). It will also provide good practical experience of project life-cycle management methodologies and core Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes including Incident/Problem & Change.

    Please note that these positions may include elements of Cyber Security work but this cannot be guaranteed.

    What experiences can we offer you?

    Business Systems Analyst:

    • As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to work on multiple IT projects across multiple business functions, for example within Engineering, Finance, Manufacturing, Sales and Aftermarket groups.
    • The role will involve you having responsibility for gathering requirements, analysis, functional design, development specifications and testing.
    • As part of this project team, you may be called upon to work with people across the globe as the business functions serve CAT facilities in the UK, US, China, Brazil, Mexico and India.

    Business Systems Support Analyst:

    • As part of the team based either in Peterborough, Shrewsbury or Desford you will be required to provide operational support across multiple globally used applications using ITIL processes including incident, problem and change management.

    In both roles you will be supported by IT professionals who have multiple years of experience in IT Project Management, Systems Design and Business Analysis as well as receiving appropriate training to gain a wider industry knowledge to perform the role expected. Upon completion of the year, you will have gained experience and knowledge of multitude of business processes and Information Systems and an appreciation of what it takes to support and maintain small and corporate scale IT solutions.

    We will provide you with a mentor to support you throughout your professional development to help you gain Chartered or Incorporated Status. We also operate a conditional offers process; our highest performing placement students are fast tracked to our graduate development scheme with a conditional offer of employment upon returning to university. This includes a financial incentive and the potential of a summer work placement.

    Who are we looking for?

    As the type of roles within our business are becoming more diverse, we are looking for people who are open minded, excellent problem solvers and who have an ability to learn quickly. We want people with a genuine interest in business information systems. You will be diligent with a focus on quality, ability to work independently and within a team using your initiative. Excellent communication skills are required to interact with people from the business at all levels.

    Degree Disciplines Accepted:

    • Applicants will be on target to achieve a minimum of 2:2 honours degree level in the following degree disciplines: All Computing Subjects. Other relevant degrees may be considered.

    We will provide you the training and support you need to be successful at Caterpillar.

    We hold a Meet and Greet day for all new UK placement students to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the UK before you start your placement.

    Recruitment Process

    Here is a brief overview of what you can expect when applying to our Early Career roles…

    • Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application and attach your CV, this must be done before the closing date of the role that you're applying for. Once we reach the close date, we will begin reviewing all our applications, this may take a little while and we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you have been successful in moving forward to the next stage.
    • Stage one – Video Interview: If selected, you will be invited to attend a pre-recorded user-friendly video interview which you have one week to complete and submit. You are able to record your answers several times to allow you plenty of practice if required. Please ensure that you check your spam emails for this invite. At this stage if you are successful, you will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre either onsite or virtually between January and April 2024.
    • Stage two – Assessment Centre: The Assessment Centre day will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. We aim to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible.
    • Stage three – Offer: After the Assessment Centre, the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our preferred candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible.
