We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement Assistant to join our team. You will join us working 35 hours per week on a fixed term contract basis until 31st December 2024 and will be based mostly working around Luton with some home working. In return you will receive a salary of up to £25,765.72 per annum plus excellent benefits.

About our Community Engagement Team
Cats Protection runs the largest cat neutering programme in the world and is at the forefront of promoting, encouraging and assisting neutering cats. In a changing world we understand the need to adapt and improve how we tackle issues of growing populations of unwanted cats.
Our aim is to build up strong and effective bonds with other agencies and groups whilst directly providing assistance with cat support including advising members of the community, trapping and transporting cats. Taking this dual approach helps us gain a real insight into what the root causes of the cat welfare issues are.
Establishing these root causes in urban communities allows us to develop bespoke interventions which support the community in improving the welfare for both owned and community cats.
Responsibilities
To support and facilitate the smooth running of the Luton neutering project by working with the general public and communities, public agencies, other charities and by providing assistance to the Community Engagement Officer specifically and other CP staff, volunteers and external customers.
You may receive a car allowance or use of a CP van to carry out the duties of the role, this will be discussed further at interview stage.
What we’re looking for
- Great customer service skills to engage with members of the communities using a variety of communication methods e.g. joining and creating events, door knocking, social media, in order to raise awareness and promote neutering projects and encourage local support for improved cat welfare
- good presentation skills delivering talks / presentations and relevant training e.g. TNR to different and mixed audiences in formal, informal settings and online
- someone who can help recruit and support new volunteers who will act as champions for projects in their own communities
- willingness to learn how to arrange and undertake trapping, neutering and transporting of feral, stray and owned cats, from and to various locations, using the company van provided and in accordance with CP Policies including cat welfare and health and safety protocols e.g. completion of risk assessments
- flexible and can assist in the implementation of programmes for neutering education and awareness-raising events and activities for all age groups

Additional information
For successful candidates we will be inviting you to an online written exercise on 15 November 2023.
If you are successful after the written exercise we will invite you to a face to face interview in Luton. You will be required to put together a presentation on a case to present followed by an interview (1 hour). Face to face interview date on 28 November 2023.
