Introducing the team

The Capital Solutions, International, team—one of five investment teams within the Fixed Income group—offers flexible and innovative solutions that range from specialty finance to quasi-equity to opportunistic credit in markets outside North America.

  • Through its specialty finance strategy, the team targets the acquisition and financing of tangible and intangible assets that generate stable cash flows while offering strong capital protection (e.g. assets intended for leasing, royalties, cash flow monetization, etc.).
  • Quasi-equity targets financings through hybrid securities, convertible securities and preferred shares
  • Opportunistic credit targets instruments that provide a higher return often associated with special situations (timing, complexity) or companies with financial difficulties or that are undergoing restructuring (distressed debt).

The successful candidate will actively support the team in achieving its business objectives by participating in rigorous file monitoring, improving portfolio performance and contributing to analyzing potential new transactions while fostering collaboration and teamwork.

Main responsibilities

  • Produce thorough fundamental, financial and sectoral analyses of securities in the portfolio and of new transactions.
  • Help prepare required internal investment documentation (memos for investment committees, financial models, internal risk ratings, sector reports, etc.).
  • Gather, analyze and summarize information on issuers to provide recommendations regarding the evolution of the risk-return profile of investments.
  • Update and collaborate on improving portfolio management reports/tools.
  • Attend various team meetings and participate in discussions on new potential investments.
  • Contribute to all other related team tasks or projects.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s (third year or higher) or master’s degree program in finance
  • Proficient in analyzing financial statements and building financial models
  • Investment experience (internship, portfolio management, participation in investment funds) is an asset
  • Enrolled in a chartered or certified financial analyst program (CFA) is an asset
  • Comfortable with financial software (Excel, Capital IQ, Bloomberg, etc.)
  • Good business acumen
  • Very strong proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written
