Would you like to join a dynamic and pragmatic team who respond quickly to challenges and work together to overcome them? If so, this could be the role for you!

Cellmark is one of the UK's leading providers of DNA and forensic casework services. The company has a rich history of innovation and continues to pioneer the development of DNA and forensic analytical services.

    The role

A non-scientific position has become available to join our team as an Exhibit Handler/Administrator on a permanent contract. This is a multi-functional and physical role where you will be liaising with our wide range of customers; and be involved in receiving and returning a broad range of forensic samples including those from serious crime scenes and mass disasters. We deal with criminal cases submitted by police forces and are responsible for maintaining the validity of the evidence receipted. The management of exhibits and the logistics around them are essential to the delivery of forensic science to our customers and the success of the business, so if you want a role that genuinely makes a difference, come and join our amazing team.

Due to nature of the work we undertake, all applicants must have lived in the UK continuously for the past five years and will be required to obtain security clearance which we will arrange.

    Skills and experience

This role is busy and varied and would suit an individual who enjoys working under pressure and to tight deadlines with a flexible and team-orientated approach. Though the role is not scientific, it is still challenging and complex. One in which you will learn unique and varying skills that go beyond normal administrative roles.

The role is entry level so experience is not essential, instead we are looking for a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. Experienced trainers provide dedicated support throughout the initial weeks of training guiding you through the live environment to competency and sign off. There will then be a period of performing the trained tasks with support and mentoring provided around this. There is also regular progression within the role as experience and competency are developed which also includes salary increases.

Experience of spreadsheet and database packages e.g. Word, Excel and Access is essential as well as computer and keyboard skills. You will be required to have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms. You will also have the ability to multi-task in order to meet the changing priorities that occur throughout the day and remain calm and clear under pressure. Every day is different and unpredictable, as are the challenges we face, however due to the work we do the role is also a very rewarding one.

Most of all we are looking for a ‘can do’ attitude with a willingness to work hard and learn to become part of a dynamic and successful team that positively contributes to forensic delivery.

    Working hours and benefits

The full-time hours for this position are 37.5 hours compressed into 4 days (3 days working 9.5 hours and one day working 9 hours). The non-working day will rotate backwards on a five-week rotating shift pattern.

This is an entry-level position with a well-defined career path and lots of opportunity for people to learn and develop. Additionally, after completing each level successfully, the role offers pay progression.

In addition, you will receive the following benefits:

    • 187.5 hours annual leave (equivalent to 25 days on a 7.5 hour working day) plus statutory, bank & public holidays. Due to the above shift pattern annual leave is managed in hours as opposed to days.
    • Pension Scheme (7.5% ER contribution and minimum of 2.5% EE contribution).
    • Private Healthcare with Aviva.
    • Perkbox (provides access to a wide range of high street discounts).
    • Life Assurance (Death in Service 4x base salary).
    • Employee Assistance Programme.

At Cellmark, we are highly motivated and professional individuals with a desire to make a positive difference to the world around us. So, if this is something that appeals to you and you wish to work in a dynamic team as part of a rewarding role, then Cellmark may be the right place for you.
