Technology is pivotal to our success, it’s the engine room of Centrica. It enables us to increase the efficiency of systems, products, services and most importantly, it allows us to work flexibly with our customers and colleagues to meet changing needs.

Here’s what you will be doing

Your placement will be within our DTS teams, working at the heart of the DTS function you will discover what it means to be a Software Engineer – creating solutions to real business issues and exploring new opportunities to unlock the value in our data.

Our growing team of Software Engineers span a range of disciplines, including Software Development, Data Engineering, Cloud Platform Engineering Network Engineering, and Information/Cyber Security to name just a few. Based on your performance you will also have the chance to earn a place on our 2026 Graduate programme following your final year of university.

Your placement will be within one of our technology teams, supporting a key area of our business.

Opportunities may include

• Web & mobile app development to build digital products for our customers
• Core application development to build functionality into our customer and billing systems
• Cloud platform/network engineering to build flexible and scalable solution environments
• Data engineering to transform data at scale to support operations and analytics purposes
• Data science including the use of machine learning to provide intelligence capabilities
• Information/cyber security technology to ensure our environments are safe and secure

We want you to experience as much as possible and be able to soak up and learn about the wonderful world of tech and life at Centrica. Throughout the programme, you will be provided with an unparalleled level of support with access to buddies, mentors, and experienced line managers, as well as having a ready-made network of graduates across the business to tap into.

We have a few must-haves

We’re looking for passionate individuals who are analytical, curious, and willing to learn. In addition, we would like you to demonstrate:

• Have the right to work in the UK
• In the office a minimum of 2 days a week
• Predicted minimum 2:1 degree in a STEM subject (2:2 if combined with a Master’s)
• Experience in software development
• Willing to relocate and try new things
• Someone with great initiative and problem-solving skills
• Someone with an understanding of Agile practices and methods to deliver value for our customers
• Available to start the programme from 18th June 2024 – 31st July 2025
