    We are looking to recruit a Paralegal, to join our People Services team, in our Legal Service, on a permanent, full-time basis.

    About the role

    To assist the Lawyers in our People Services team, to work with others in that team, and to provide a comprehensive and efficient legal service to Ceredigion County Council and its service areas.

    On a day to day basis you will:

    • assist Solicitors and others to complete any legal tasks that may be required
    • attend court proceedings and other venues such as inquiries, tribunals and committees, and to sit behind Counsel or Solicitors to assist in those proceedings
    • attend Court and other forums on behalf of the Local Authority where appropriate and provide representation
    • under supervision, to have the care and conduct of legal files and to prepare any legal documents or other material that may be required such as correspondence, draft orders, contracts, applications, chronologies
    • undertake all work in the context of the professional standards of Solicitors, and in compliance with the Constitution of the Council
    • carry out any office and administrative duties as and when required to assist Solicitors and other legal practitioners in providing legal services to the Council such as collation and indexing of documents for Court proceedings, photocopying, answering telephones
    • undertake any research necessary to deal with files or to assist Solicitors and others in the legal team and client service areas
    • undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the grade at the direction of the Corporate Manager

    Our ideal candidate

    We are looking to recruit an individual with:

    • a degree or equivalent higher education or substantial practical experience
    • good organisational and communication skills
    • the ability to manage a caseload with supervision
    • good IT skills
    • good interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relations with a variety of people both within and outside the legal services team including other client departments , other organisations and agencies outside of the Council
    • an ability to work under pressure when the need arises
    • the ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and any emergencies
    • flexibility and a willingness to undertake new challenges and projects as and when they arise
    • the ability to work as part of a team
    • a willingness to undertake legal training on courses as a when required
    • experience in working within local government
    • experience in dealing with digital portals software
    • experience of preparation of documents and cases for court, or Counsel in litigation matters of various kinds and/or formal procedures
    • experience in administration and office work
