We’re looking for bright and enthusiastic graduates to help create our best-selling books and revision materials. As a Graduate Editor, you’ll use your degree (be that Maths, Physics, English Lit or something else), interest in education and writing skills to make learning fun and engaging for students of all ages.

To join us, you’ll have a great academic background (minimum ABB at A-level and 2:1 degree from a top university) and ideally a bit of part-time work or volunteering experience too. What would I be doing as a Trainee Editor?
You’ll be editing and writing text, making sure explanations are clear and easy to understand. You’ll also be finding and editing graphics, and combining them with the text to produce beautifully laid out pages. As a trainee in the team, you’ll receive detailed feedback, guidance and training from more senior Editors to help you progress.
And the humour, who adds that?
You will! You’ll learn CGP’s instantly recognisable house style so that you’re fully equipped to make sure our books are bursting with personality.
What qualifications and skills will I need?
You’ll be extremely bright with a great academic record — at least a 2:1 degree and ABB at A-Level:
- If your degree is in an arts, humanities or languages subject, then you’ll also have a strong English Lit A-level
- If you have a Science or Mathematics degree, then we’ll ideally be looking for you to have great A-levels in Maths plus a Science subject
You’ll also need a confident command of English and excellent attention to detail so that you can produce good pages and spot mistakes. Alongside top communication skills and the ability to take constructive criticism on board, a flash of creativity is very handy too.
What software do I need to be able to use?
We use a range of different software to make our products, with Adobe InDesign being the main one. You’ll need to be comfortable getting to grips with new software quickly, but you don’t need prior experience of any particular packages — you’ll be given full training. After that, we expect you to be constantly improving your software skills to become ever slicker at your job.
Where will I be working?
At one of our offices on the southern edge of the beautiful Lake District, Cumbria.
What subjects will I be working on?
It depends on what products we’re making. There’ll be times when you work on your subject specialism and times when you’re working on something completely different. It’s important that you’re flexible and a good team player.
But I’m a Science/Maths graduate — don’t you need an English degree to work in publishing?
Nope, not at all! We specifically need Science and Maths graduates to work on our Science and Maths products. You’ll need a solid grasp of grammar, spelling and punctuation, but a background in creative writing or analysing texts isn’t necessary. We’re more interested in your ability to explain complex ideas in everyday language.
I’ve never considered working in publishing before, and I don’t have any experience — is that a problem?
No. In fact, plenty of our Editors weren't looking for a job in publishing before they came across our advert. They’re a bright, talented bunch who wanted to continue to use their subject knowledge but weren’t necessarily interested in a career in the lab or becoming an accountant. Joining our publishing team fit the bill for them… so it could for you too!
