As an Entry-Level Sales Engineer at Charter Controls, you will be allocated a region or regions in the UK depending on your location, you will be responsible for responding to leads generated from inquiries, marketing efforts, market research as well as attend Exhibitions together with the Sales Director and Marketing Manager.
You will work to increase the company's revenue by expanding the customer base, increasing sales revenue, and maintaining profit margin %. Full training will be provided on sales techniques and our administrative tools.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to leads from various sources, including self-generated research and CRM accounts.
- Conduct research to identify potential prospects (training will be provided).
- Travel to meet and engage with prospects and existing customers.
- Increase the number of active customers on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Achieve monthly sales revenue targets while maintaining required profitable margins.
- Proactively contact existing customers via telephone and email within your region/regions to ensure their needs are met and business is not lost to competition.
- Efficiently provide and follow up on quotes, adhering to the sales process.
- Close inquiries per the sales process and log details in CRM.
- Generate new customers within the industrial electrical industry.
- Expand product offerings to existing customers who could benefit from additional products.
- Maintain CRM records, including up-to-date meeting notes, telephone conversations, and customer information.
- Promptly deliver quotes to customers.
- Ensure customer records, including contacts and addresses, are accurate and current.
- Prepare and submit weekly sales reports for discussion with the Sales Director via Teams or Face-to-Face, with a shift to monthly reporting as needed based on your progress.

Skills & experience required
- Previous history of sales in the controls and automation industry preferred.
- Some knowledge of Automation & Control products and their industrial applications.
- Ability to book meetings with various stakeholders and departments (Engineering, Purchasing, Finance) of potential customers and key decision makers.
- Basic IT skills, including record-keeping, CRM software, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.
- Full Clean UK Driving License.
- Positive attitude, driven, and ambitious with ability to plan week or month ahead.
- Personable with the ability to build rapport.
- Conscientious with a strong work ethic and always dressed professionally and impeccably when attending meetings.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently but not afraid to ask for help!
- Ability to provide regular feedback on competitor products and industry activity with time as you are becoming more confident in your role.
- Ability to present products and discuss features and benefits following training.
