The Asia-Pacific Programme is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to help us implement and deliver our EU-funded 'European Hub for Contemporary China' project, and support our wider research on China. Key responsibilities
Delivery
- Participate in our EU-funded project 'European Hub for Contemporary China', supporting the Chatham House project lead, our Senior Research Fellow for China, and working in collaboration with the project's external lead partner, as well as research assistants based with the project's consortium partners across Europe.
- Use your expertise of China's political economy to assist in developing a new online research hub. Tasks will involve identifying relevant articles and policy papers for the hub, as well as identifying key terms and concepts (in English and Chinese) to develop and train the hub's AI platform.
- Assist in testing of the AI platform and provide feedback on prototypes of the software.
- Contribute to the creation of documentation such as user manuals and training materials for end-users and developers.
- Provide research assistance, including conducting background research and fact checking of research outputs and publications.
- Contribute towards the production of literature reviews, datasets, charts and graphics.
- Provide editorial and referencing support for publications.
- You may be expected to attend overseas workshops.
People
- Establish yourself as a point of contact for the European Hub for Contemporary China project.
- Provide on-the-day support to the team and external participants during events.
Strategy
- Work closely with our project partners and participate in regular project meetings, acting as rapporteur and drafting meeting summaries, as required.
Person specification
You will have the following skills and proven experience:
- Excellent knowledge of contemporary Chinese politics, international relations and political economy.
- The ability to read and analyse materials written in English and Chinese is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to take ownership and balance multiple tasks, prioritise accordingly, and work calmly under pressure.
- Knowledge of website development and AI platforms (desirable)
