    This six month internship will provide day-to-day support to the Impressionist & Modern Art Department in London. The internship will consist of intensive research projects for upcoming sales and assistance with valuations and proposals for future sale prospects. Complementary research will be conducted at external London libraries under the guidance of Cataloguers and Specialists. There will be hands on training in the department warehouse and direct contact with the works, which will be offered for sale. There will be involvement in the sourcing of images for the sale catalogues, mounting of the pre-sale exhibition, and assistance with lot cards and pre-sale events.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

    • Helping Specialists by looking for works in the Catalogue Raisonné, and researching provenance, exhibition history and additional literature of art works.
    • Assisting Specialists with valuation and proposals tasks.
    • Completing supplementary research in the National Art Library, Tate Library, Courtauld and Victoria and Albert Museum.
    • Assisting in the warehouse with cataloguing of works as required.
    • Helping sale coordinators with pre and post-sale administration including expertise requests.
    • Sending out catalogues to clients pre-sale.
    • Managing the organisation of the images for the sale catalogue.
    • Responsible for creating and mounting the lot-cards and organizing the condition reports for the viewing rooms.
    • Assisting with the pre-sale exhibition and events.

    There will also be some general tasks such as: Answering department telephones, collecting & delivering items, running errands inside and outside of the building, keeping the Library in order, photocopying and sending articles.

    The Candidate

    • Strong IT skills with familiarity of all Microsoft packages, particularly Excel.
    • Language skills (fluent in English) plus one other European language desirable but not essential.
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize.
    • A motivated team-player.
