To provide regional legal and regulatory support across Chubb’s UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to Chubb’s commercial Operations (i.e. the commercial arrangements supporting the complex strategic and day to day operations of Chubb’s EMEA business).
Key responsabilities
- Manage and lead on legal and regulatory matters supporting all business areas within Chubb EMEA’s operations.
Reporting directly to the Senior Regional Legal Counsel, Operations, your key responsibilities are:- To advise on a broad range of strategic and BAU commercial arrangements including technology, digital, data and outsourcing matters being implemented in the UK and EMEA
- To negotiate and draft a broad range of contracts for TPA, technology software and services, data sharing, professional services, intragroup and other commercial arrangements
- To support on regional Projects relevant to arrangements supporting Chubb’s operations and businesses e.g. material outsourcing and corporate restructures
- To monitor legal and regulatory developments relating to commercial arrangements and contracts, including technology, and provide training and know-how to stakeholders on relevant topics
- To proactively review and improve processes and produce training guides for the team and the business
- To manage the instruction of external counsel
- Proactively work towards being a subject matter expert on legal, regulatory and business matters in particular related to commercial and technology arrangements and use this knowledge to support all business areas.
- Provide regional legal and regulatory support to Chubb’s EMEA in-territory legal and compliance officers.
- Build and maintain relationships, partner with and work closely with key business stakeholders to understand and influence business strategy and tactical priorities.
- Support, report to and update Senior Regional Legal Counsel, Operations – EMEA.
- Collaborate as required with the Regional Legal teams supporting Chubb’s Underwriting and Distribution activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with Chubb Overseas General (COG) and Global Legal and Compliance officers.
- Build and maintain relationships with external counsel and instruct external counsel as needed for specific expertise.
- Apply risk based, creative, decision led lawyering on the right tasks and matters and adopt a mixture of big picture and then focused analytical and logical solution driven approach (question/problem; analysis; solution; decision; influence).
- Assist with the drive for consistency and efficiency across EMEA by seeking out and sharing expertise and experiences, information, learnings, know-how and experiences with colleagues and the business.
- Work with and support junior members of the Chubb EMEA legal team.
Qualifications
Legal qualification with entitlement to practice as a UK solicitor or barrister.
Languages
- English – fluent and natural (both written and spoken).
- Working knowledge of a European language is an advantage, though not a strict requirement.
Experience
- At least 5 years PQE in private practice and/or in-house.
- Knowledge of or interest in information technology laws, regulation and practices.
- Experience in managing and advising on the implementation of material outsourcing arrangements and other key projects.
- Strong knowledge of contract law and regulation and related areas including DP, IP and TUPE.
- Expertise in contract drafting in a range of general commercial contracts including good experience of technology contracts.
- Skilled and natural communicator (both written and spoken) with a clear and concise manner and approach and strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent ability to manage and influence stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with strong inter-personnel skills and with the ability and confidence to influence others.
- Highly adept at managing a large workload and competing priorities in a very busy and high-pressured environment. Strong inter-personnel skill and skilled at communicating legal issues to internal clients in a firm but professional manner
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
