Get on the Fast Stream and you’ll be encouraged, enabled and empowered to become a Civil Service leader, tackling the issues that matter to you and UK life. Whatever you want to achieve, whatever your degree subject or background, there’s something here for you.

What could I be involved in as a Project Delivery Fast Streamer?

On this scheme, you’ll gain professional project delivery skills while playing an active role in some of the most significant projects around the world.

As a Project Delivery Fast Streamer, you’ll enjoy fast-paced projects of unparalleled scale and complexity. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that deliver huge benefits and improvements to people across the UK, like building hospitals and railways, supporting economic growth or providing cutting-edge digital services.

With each posting on this programme, you’ll gain experience of different stages of the project lifecycle and learn a range of project delivery methodologies. You can expect to take on a mixture of specialist, generalist and management roles, enabling you to develop all the skills you’ll need to become a Project Delivery leader in the Civil Service.

Growing your knowledge, skills and experience

On this scheme you’ll work to gain project management qualifications relevant to your placements, including PRINCE2 Practitioner and Agile PM Practitioner amongst others.

As well as having placements to build core project delivery skills, you’ll spend 6 months in another government profession – like Commercial, Finance, Policy or Operational Delivery – to supplement your development. You could also have an opportunity to spend 6 months working on a project outside the Civil Service in either a charity, Arms-Length Body, or in another public or private organisation.

You’ll have plenty of support throughout the scheme, including mentoring from a senior Project Delivery professional as well as support from your activity manager and cohort leader, who’ll work with you to make sure you have the wider learning and development opportunities you need.  Other development opportunities include access to a range of learning events to help you grow your leadership skills.

    To apply, you’ll need

    • Eligibility to work in the UK.
    • A 2:2 or higher (or be expecting to achieve this) in any degree subject, including degree apprenticeships.

We support applicants with health conditions, learning difficulties and disabilities, with their applications and through their Civil Service careers. We operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme. If you have a disability and meet the minimum qualifying criteria for your chosen scheme, you may choose to skip part of the first stage of the assessment process.
