What will your Summer Internship experience lead to? Bring an open mind and the determination to do great things for society, and we’ll support you to start exploring your leadership potential.
The Summer Internship Programme (SIP) gives people from all backgrounds the opportunity to get valuable training working with a government department and experience what a career in the Civil Service is like. With 6 to 8 weeks of paid work experience, it’s an excellent way to prepare for a place on one of our Fast Stream graduate schemes - which could lead to many different Civil Service career paths at the heart of government.
What will you experience on the Summer Internship Programme?
It all starts with a welcome reception, where you’ll hear from inspirational speakers and learn how to make the most of your time on the Internship. Then you’ll begin your placement in a government department, gaining new skills and knowledge doing challenging project-related work. You’ll also get an insight into the broad range of opportunities available across the Civil Service.
You could be
- Conducting research.
- Providing project support.
- Helping to create policy documents.
- Shadowing senior civil servants.
- Attending meetings with senior advisors on major issues.
We’ll support your development with
- An allocated Fast Stream buddy and a scheme manager to support and oversee you.
- A variety of events like skills sessions and parliamentary visits.
- The Fast Pass - If you’re from a diverse background eligible for the SIP, you’ll also have access to Fast Pass. This potentially allows you to be fast-tracked to the final stages of the Fast Stream selection process. As part of the programme, you’ll also benefit from selection skill support to help increase your chances of successfully passing the Fast Stream assessment process.
