    Risk & Compliance Graduate Programme

The Risk Function in Close Brothers provides oversight of the risk management framework across the diverse divisions of Close Brothers Group. The function is responsible for assisting the Businesses in delivering their strategic objectives, within a defined risk appetite, and achieve an appropriate balance between risk and reward.

Compliance works closely with the risk team and is responsible for ensuring that the Group understand and follow all applicable regulatory and legal requirements relating to the Group’s conduct of business with its clients, and employees. We do this through liaison with our regulators, tracking changes to relevant rules, development of policies to meet these, provision of regulatory advice, delivery of training and monitoring adherence to regulatory or internal requirements, and this forms an essential part of the Group.

Both programmes offer four rotations of six months across our Risk, Credit Risk and Compliance teams. On our risk programme, as a graduate trainee, you will be introduced to the overall risk framework and gain understanding around the key risks we face and how we manage our risk appetite. This will involve risk analysis and reporting, creating outputs used by senior stakeholders to make key decisions, root cause analysis of risk events, partnering with operational colleagues to ensure actions are taken to prevent recurrence.

On our compliance programme, you will be introduced to the overall compliance framework including the rules and regulations within the bank and the practical challenges of implementing regulatory requirements. This will involve KYC Client Onboarding, Client due diligence, AML investigations and Transaction monitoring screening.

Exposure to various risk and compliance committees will help you develop excellent relationship management skills, honed by exposure to multiple stakeholders from a range of businesses. Alongside this, you will be encouraged and financially supported to undertake professional qualifications relevant to your aspirations and role. For example, ACCA or CIMA, CFA or ALMA or FRM/CRM.
