Our Actions Against the Police and State Team is ranked as a tier 1 in Chambers & Partners and specialises in inquests and public inquiries, human rights, protests, police complaints and misconduct proceedings, alongside civil actions for compensation and public law challenges against state bodies including the police, the prison service and healthcare providers.
Key responsibilities
We are seeking to recruit a motivated and capable paralegal to work with the team. The role will consist of assisting with case preparation, legal research, document management, processing evidence, initial enquiries, completing funding forms, client and witness contact, attending court and conferences, financial and billing assistance, as well as general administration.
Skills knowledge and requirements
Essential
- High graduate/post-graduate qualifications
- Legal experience, in particular of police actions and human rights law, and Legal Aid is desirable, but not essential
- Able to work well within a team, and be able to take responsibility when working individually and able to use their initiative. You should also have good administrative and case management skills within an office environment
Desirable
The successful candidate should also have the following:
- Excellent people skills
- Good research and document analysis skills
This role would suit someone who has completed a law degree, is completing the GDL or LPC on a part-time basis and/or has relevant prior experience working in the legal sector or connected NGOs and Charities. It may also suit someone with experience in a research position. The post holder may ultimately be considered for a training contract at the firm subject to satisfactory performance (though there can be no guarantee of this).
