CML is offering a fantastic opportunity for a talented Graduate Civil Engineer with an interest in design and construction to join our established Design team in Leeds.

The role

Within the role you can expect to:

  • Aid Design Management team with the coordination of temporary and permanent works design and interfaces within the construction team, for a variety of civil engineering projects including earthworks, drainage and structures disciplines.
  • Interpret client remits to identify design requirements and agree the scope of works with the client prior to progressing design works.
  • Liaise with sub-contract design consultants, briefing them on our requirements, and obtain fee proposals for completing the agreed scope of works.
  • Assist in the placement of sub-contract orders with design consultancies for engineering and temporary works design remits. Orders should be awarded to the most appropriate consultant, based on the competency and value displayed in specific proposals and based on past performance.
  • Review designer’s deliverables to ensure designs fulfil the clients remit and comply with the standards and regulations applicable to the contract.
  • Provide support to the construction team as required during the planning and construction phase – attend pre-start project meetings to brief construction engineers on the design and construction drawings.
  • Carry-out a technical review of all documents submitted by sub-contract design engineers and approve / respond as necessary to deliver design submission in accordance with NwR Specifications and Standards.
  • Attend regular progress meetings with the client to report on progress and deal with queries. Update and maintain design progress within CML’s ‘Insight’ database and relevant client design tracking tools.

For the right candidate, we are very pleased to be able to offer entrance onto our Institution of Civil Engineers approved training scheme, to potentially achieve IEng and subsequently Chartered status.

About you

The perfect candidate will have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering/ Structural Engineering/ Building Engineering or other relevant subject
  • Experience in any Construction industry role (Rail preferred) within a contracting environment – highly desirable
  • Intermediate/ Advanced skills in IT and knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Strong numeracy and visual thinking skills
  • The ability to comfortably read technical drawings
  • Strong, clear communication skills
  • The ability to self motivate, working in a systematic and analytical way, with acute attention to detail
