    Responsible for producing Group Scheme quotations incorporating Group Life, Group Income Protection and
    Group Critical Illness business for Corporate clients’ according the AIG Life scheme underwriting basis, to the
    agreed turn-around times.

    The role

    The Trainee Scheme Underwriter will play a vital and supporting role in the business management of our group risk portfolio, with specific responsibilities for scheme underwriting and all activities connected with it, through the profitable acquisition and retention of business.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct Scheme underwriting in line with AIG Life Corporate guidelines and bases.
    • Working with the AIG Life distribution to underwrite, issue application forms and put on-risk all schemes, and with the operations team to provide administration support on all on-risk schemes including rate reviews, re-quoting tolerance breaches and scheme changes.
    • Maintaining good relationships with AIG Life distribution and client service teams, including managing expectations and meeting deadlines / service standards as required.
    • Contributing to the profitability of the portfolio through the acquisition and retention of business.
    • Contributing ideas and support to the positive development of the scheme underwriting basis, the underwriting systems in general and process improvements
    • Working as part of a ‘virtual team’ with other operational areas such as actuarial, underwriting and claims to ensure an excellent client relationship and a client focussed approach to business management.
    • Applying policy changes and issuing policy schedules
    • Contributing to on-going projects within the AIG Life team

    General Duties and Tasks

    • Underwriting life, critical illness, and income protection schemes on a daily basis, aligned to AIG Life underwriting bases and within agreed service standards.
    • Working with AIG Life distribution team to provide efficient and appropriate support through underwriting, issue of application forms and put on-risk all schemes allocated.
    • Liaison with Reinsurer on scheme referrals
    • Contributing ideas and support to the positive development of the practices, processes and standards in AIG Life
    • Support in system development, maintenance and testing
    • Being involved in project work on an ad hoc basis.
    • Working as part of a ‘virtual team’ with other operational areas such as actuarial, underwriting, administration and claims to ensure an excellent client relationship and a client focussed approach to business management.
    • Maintain a checking register to build a database of underwritten cases

    Skills and Expertise

    • Essential Strong analytical skills.
    • Demonstrable skills in MS Office suite particularly excel.
    • Excellent communication and team working skills.
    • Strong organisational skills.
    • Degree or equivalent qualified with progress in ACII

    Desirable

    • Previous involvement in product development projects or other cross department projects.
    • Experience in system testing.
    • A knowledge of the UK grouprisk market.
    • Up to 12months scheme underwriting experience or training
